Before the dawn of the industrial age, many sacrifices were made to satanic figures that were believed to haunt a thick forest. The forest remained in vivid hues of Autumn year round, save when the snow coats the Earth. The Native Americans believed spirits lived in the forest, and it was forbidden. They paid homage to the deities via sacrifice. It was no wonder when white man came and tried to settle the land there was much bloodshed between the two sides. It is rumored their spirits remained Earth bound to the forest, some angry and violent.

Once the Native Americans fled the land, white man constructed villages around and within the forest. Strange happenings went on in the settlements. People went insane, children were stillborn or grossly deformed, wives killed husbands and livestock mysteriously dropped dead overnight. The people reached out to religious figures such as priests for help. The naive priests condemned the occurances as witchcraft. People, fearing for their own safety turned on each other. The guilty accused the innocent of having dealings with the devil. These satanic worshipers, guilty or not were condemned to death. Some were hanged before the village, some were tied to crosses and burned, their charred remains left for the creatures of the woods. Those that were left after the witch hunts fled to settlements far away, cursing the woods.

After the witch hunts the forest was known as The Burning Woods, and all those poor souls who had died still lingered Earth bound. Many of those that perished were innocent, though some...some deserved their fate. At night the forest is eery, evil cackles can be heard in the swirling mist that covers the ground. Wooden crosses aged with time still stand, a constant warning of the evil doings. Humans feared the forest, and avoided it like the plague. It was forbidden by their government to enter it. The brave few who dared, were never seen nor heard from again.

Strangely the land replenished itself. Equines, deer, and all other manners of wood dwelling creatures made their homes within the expanses of The Burning Woods. Soon, wolves and other predators moved into the area. It was a dangerous place, full of mystery but it was safe from humanities cruel ways. It has been decades and the forest has seen much, but something new is afoot. Something sinister. Strange beings, cloaked and silent have been seen roaming at night, and feeding upon animals. They appear human...yet they smell of nothing. They do not speak. They only watch. Equines and wolves fear them, and the old settlement where they have seemed to make their home.

Only time and patience will tell how the three dominant species will co exist.

The Season

It is currently Spring of year 1 in Burning Woods. Animals have their young close by their sides, and the all the plants are in bloom. Beware though, overprotective mothers will do what it takes to protect their offspring. There have been strange doings around the Village and rumors of odd beings, it would be wise to stay clear. It is sunny with temperatures up into the 90s everyday, though towards fall water and food will be scarce. The rain comes frequently, drenching the lands.
